NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – An expanded Walmart will unveil the changes Wednesday, Oct. 30, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The expanded store at 506 State Road is conveniently located on Route 6 close to the Dartmouth Mall, and will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. It will provide North Dartmouth residents with one-stop shopping convenience for their grocery and general merchandise needs. The store also offers pharmacy services.
The expansion adds approximately 11,000 square feet to the existing store and will allow for a larger selection of merchandise for customers. New departments include fresh produce, fresh bakery, meat, seafood, deli and dry grocery and expanded frozen dairy.
One-Stop Shopping Convenience
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items. It also offers a full line of groceries, including organic and natural selections in addition to local favorites. Some local products available include Portuguese sausages, such as Linguica and Chourico, from Amaral's and Gaspar's and items from Tony's Bakery.
The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions.
The grand-opening celebration also includes presentations of grants from Walmart to local community groups including Mercy Meals and More, Pitching in for Kids, Neediest Families Fund, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren and Special Olympics, Dartmouth Chapter.
"Walmart has a long history of giving in the local community, including its generous contribution to the Dartmouth Community Park," said Susan Goodman, member of the Dartmouth Community Park committee. "Their generous gift helped to develop the park that links the Dartmouth Southworth Library and the Cushman Elementary School."
In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart's pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart's and the Walmart Foundation's $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Massachusetts donated approximately 880,000 pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 730,000 meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $3.4 million in fiscal year 2013 in Massachusetts alone. More Store, More Jobs
The store employs approximately 300 full- and part-time associates, including approximately 80 positions created by the expansion. Store manager Jennifer Martin began her Walmart career in 1993 as a cashier at the Raynham store.
"We are excited to expand our grocery offerings and bring 80 additional jobs to North Dartmouth," said Martin. "We invite everyone to stop by and see the new expansion, enjoy our grand-opening festivities and take advantage of vendor promotions and giveaways."

A Big Family Welcome will give customers a chance to meet Martin and enjoy fun family activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating and free food samples while supplies last.
