DUE TO WINTER STORM EFFECTS, RIPTA TO DETOUR SEVEN ROUTES ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 3, 2013
Service to some Park-N-Ride Lots Suspended
The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced today that due to the effects of Winter Storm Hercules, seven bus routes will be on detour starting today until further notice.
The following routes are on detour until further notice:
Trips will not service the Rte. 1A and 138 Park-N-Ride.
Service to Hillcrest Apartments has been suspended.
Service to Stop & Shop Supermarket has been suspended; trips will terminate at Sisson Street.
Service to Bay View Apartments and Boyd's Lane Park-N-Ride suspended.
Outbound trips will travel on 138 West to Route 1 South to 138 West.
Inbound and Outbound trips will not travel on 2nd and 3rd Streets.
Service to West House, Oxbow Apartments and Newport Town Center suspended.
Trips will not service Rte. 1A and 138 Park-N-Ride
Trips will not service the Tower Hill Park-N-Ride.
Trips will not service the shelter at the entrance to the mall. Trips will enter the main entrance,
take a left at McDonald's and exit the mall on the far side of McDonald's.
Trips will not service the Park-N-Ride on Rte. 2 and 102.
As the winter storm continues to move toward New England, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is working closely with emergency officials to prepare for possible service impacts caused by winter conditions. RIPTA's emergency preparedness plan focuses first on safety and second on attempting to accommodate as many passengers as possible traveling within Rhode Island. Throughout the winter storm later tonight and tomorrow, RIPTA passengers should anticipate delays on all routes due to the inclement weather.
RIPTA is urging passengers to sign up for electronic News Updates at http://www.ripta.com/detours-news; RIPTA will e-mail system disruption notices to passengers on this distribution list. Passengers are strongly advised to monitor news reports, check www.RIPTA.com and RIPTA's social media outlets (Facebook @RideRIPTA ,Twitter @RIPTA_RI) for service advisory updates. Customers are advised to use extra caution at bus stops, as conditions may slippery.
