RIPTA detours 15 routes due to Thursday snow

DUE TO WINTER STORM EFFECTS, RIPTA TO DETOUR FIFTEEN ROUTES ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2014

Providence, Rhode Island, February 13, 2014
— The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced today that due to the effects of the winter storm, fifteen bus routes will be on detour starting today until further notice. RIPTA passengers should anticipate delays on all routes before and after the winter storm due to weather conditions, especially on Route 54 and 87. The safety of our employees and passengers is RIPTA's top priority. RIPTA apologizes for the inconvenience and asks for the public's understanding as we work around the clock to resume service.

PARK-N-RIDE SERVICE UPDATE: RIPTA buses will not enter Park-N-Ride lots. Passengers will be picked up and dropped off on the side of the road.

The following routes are on detour today, Thursday, February 13, 2014 until further notice:

Route 1:

Service to front doors of RI Hospital suspended. Passengers will be picked up and dropped off on Eddy Street.

Route 6:
Service to Roger Williams Park Zoo suspended; service will terminate at CCRI Campus.

Route 21: UPDATED
RIPTA is no longer being detoured off Rte. 10.
Service to Chapel View suspended.
Outbound trips will travel the regular route to Sockanosset Road, right onto Pontiac Avenue, right onto Howard Avenue, and then resume regular route.

Route 27:
Service to Hillcrest Apartments suspended.

Route 30: UPDATED
Regular route.

Route 49:
No service on this line.

Route 51:
Service to CCRI Lincoln Campus suspended; service will terminate at Twin River.

Route 52:
Service to Metcalf Court suspended.

Route 54:
Service to CCRI Lincoln Campus suspended.

Route 55:
Service to Fatima Hospital suspended; service will terminate at Shaw's.
Service to River Avenue, Eaton Street and Huxley Avenue suspended.
Outbound and Inbound trips will travel continue straight on Admiral Street.

Route 56:
Service to Stop & Shop suspended; service will terminate at Sisson Street.

Route 58:
Service to Esmond Village suspended.
Service to Georgiaville Manor suspended.

Route 64:
Service to Bay Campus will not loop around campus; service will turn around at the Visitors Center.

Route 72:
Service to lower Silver Spring Street suspended.
Outbound trips will travel the regular route to Charles Street, continue on Charles Street, right onto Branch Avenue, left onto Silver String Street.
Inbound trips will travel the reverse.

Route 73:
Service to CCRI Lincoln Campus suspended; service will terminate at Twin River.

Route 87:
Service to Fairmount suspended.
Service to Morin Heights suspended.

RIPTA's emergency preparedness plan focuses first on safety and second on attempting to accommodate as many passengers as possible traveling within Rhode Island. Throughout the winter storm, RIPTA passengers should anticipate delays on all routes due to the inclement weather.

Customers are advised to use extra caution at bus stops, as conditions may slippery.
