AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members honored for contributions to the City of Providence
PROVIDENCE, RI – Mayor Angel Taveras today signed a proclamation declaring April 1, 2014 as "National Service Recognition Day" in the City of Providence. The proclamation highlights the contributions of the more than 700 National Service members who work to improve the quality of life for City residents in agencies and schools across Providence.
"AmeriCorps and Senior Corps address the most pressing challenges facing our city and nation, from helping to educate students in our public schools to supporting veterans and military families and preserving the environment," said Mayor Taveras.
Mayor Taveras issued the proclamation at a special ceremony honoring National Service members at Providence City Hall earlier today. More than 1,700 mayors across the country are expected to participate in the second annual Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service with events across the country.
