City of Providence Begins Free Yard Waste Collection
Residents urged not to put yard waste in Big Green Can; improper recycling will result in fines
PROVIDENCE, RI – The City of Providence Department of Public Works reminds residents that free yard debris collection begins today, Monday, April 14, 2014.
Residents are urged not to dispose of yard debris in big green recycling cans. Please be advised that yard debris improperly placed in recycling barrels will result in a fine of up to $500 to the property owner. When yard waste is mixed with recycling it costs the City money, as yard debris contaminates entire loads of recycling.
• Residents are encouraged to leave all yard debris out to be collected by the City and composted.
• Yard debris should be left curbside on regular recycling and trash collection days.
• Sticks and trimmings must be cut to 4 feet or smaller and tied together. Yard debris may not be placed inside plastic bags. Paper bags or clearly marked reusable containers are acceptable.
• Yard debris collection ends on Friday, December 12, 2014.
