Wilkes-Barre, PA – The Providence Bruins fell to the WB/Scranton Penguins Saturday night in Game 2 of their Round 2 series by a final score of 6-1. Justin Florek scored the sole P-Bruins goal. Niklas Svedberg stopped 19 of the 24 shots taken.
Scoring Summary: The P-Bruins and Penguins went scoreless in the first period. The Penguins opened the scoring at the 5:41 minute mark in the second period as Coner Sheary scored his first goal of the playoffs, assisted by Spencer Machacek and Brian Dumoulin to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead. Justin Florek scored his first goal of the playoffs on a power play at the 11:25 mark to tie the score 1-1, Nick Johnson and Seth Griffith were credited with the assists. The Penguins extended their lead when Anton Zlobin found the back of the net at the 15:28 minute mark, assisted by Nick Drazenovic and Dumoulin to make it 2-1. Less than a minute later, Zoblin struck again, this time on a power play assisted by Chuck Kobasew and Brendan Mikkelson to make the score 3-1. With less than a minute left in the second period, Kobasew scored his fourth goal of the playoffs on a power play assisted by Simon Despres, Tom Kostopoulos, giving the Penguins a 4-1 lead. In the third period, Kostopoulos netted his second goal of the playoffs on a power play, assisted by Zlobin, and Despres to make it 5-1. Dumoulin added to the Penguins lead with his second goal of the playoffs,
at the 10:29 minute mark making the score 6-1.
Notes: Providence finished the game with 24 shots, going 1 for 8 on the power play on the night... WB/Scranton finished with 25 shots, going 3 for 6 on the power play.
