Dawn Bergantino Selected as Press Secretary

Taveras campaign spokeswoman brings long experience to Office of the Mayor

PROVIDENCE, RI
– Mayor Angel Taveras Friday announced the selection of Dawn Bergantino as his administration's Press Secretary.

A Rhode Island native, Bergantino served most recently as the Communications Director for Mayor Taveras' gubernatorial campaign. She previously was vice president at Porter Novelli, a public relations firm in Washington, D.C. Prior to that, Bergantino served as Communications Director to Congresswoman Anna Eshoo (D-CA) and Deputy Press Secretary to U.S. Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI).

“Dawn is a veteran communications professional with a deep understanding of Providence and Rhode Island. I look forward to working with her as we continue our progress to move Providence forward,” said Mayor Taveras.

As Press Secretary, Bergantino will oversee the administration's media strategy and serve as the Mayor's primary spokesperson and media contact. She begins in the Mayor's Office on Monday, September 29.

Bergantino graduated from the University of Rhode Island and holds a master's degree in communications from American University in Washington, D.C.

She replaces Meaghan McCabe, who joined the Mayor's Office in 2012 as Coordinator of Multimedia and Social Media and was subsequently named Deputy Press Secretary. McCabe departs to join Providence-based public relations and communications firm New Harbor Group.

“I congratulate Meaghan as she transitions out of the Mayor's Office,” Taveras said. “Meaghan is a dedicated and talented communications professional and I have no doubt she will continue to make an impact in our community.”
