Thomas Menino dies at age 71

Thomas Menino, the longest serving former Mayor of Boston, died Thursday at age 71 after a battle with cancer.  Menino's office issued this statement:

“At just after 9 a.m. this morning the Honorable Thomas M. Menino passed into eternal rest after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his devoted wife Angela, loving family and friends.”

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Menino family and Boston community.
