Temporary Traffic Changes around Providence Place Mall Planned for December 26 -28
To accommodate an anticipated increase in pedestrian and vehicle traffic, the City of Providence has planned traffic changes from 12PM to 7PM
- The City of Providence Tuesday announced temporary traffic changes planned around Providence Place Mall following the Christmas holiday. From 12PM to 7PM beginning Friday, December 26 through Sunday, December 28, left turn traffic movement from the Route 6 Eastbound off ramp to Francis Street will be detoured east on Memorial Boulevard, left onto Exchange Street, and left onto Finance Way.
Vehicles seeking entrance to the Providence Place Mall will be directed to Park Street. Traffic will be prohibited onto Hayes Street with the exception of right turns from Park St. onto Hayes St. which will be allowed to enter the Mall from Hayes St.
Traffic will be prohibited from travelling southbound on Francis St. between Smith Street and Gaspee Street.
Traffic exiting the Mall onto Park Street will be directed to Promenade Street and left onto Dean Street to access major highways I-95, I-195 and Route 6.
In addition, traffic exiting the north and south convention center garage will be detoured as is typically done during major events at the Dunkin Donuts Center/Convention Center. This includes forcing traffic exiting the north garage to turn right and exit onto West Exchange Street northbound and traffic exiting the south garage will be forced to turn left and exit onto Sabin Street.
These temporary traffic changes are being planned in coordination with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation to accommodate the increased downtown traffic expected following the Christmas holiday. For maps illustrating the changes, please visit: www.providenceri.com
