Citywide Parking Ban in Effect Until 8AM on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015
PROVIDENCE, RI – A citywide parking ban will remain in effect until 8AM tomorrow, Monday, February 16, 2015. Residents with overnight parking passes are advised that they cannot park on the street during the duration of the citywide parking ban. All vehicles parked on the street in violation of the citywide parking ban will be ticketed and towed to ensure that roadways can be plowed in the wake of the snow storm.
Residents and businesses are asked to shovel their sidewalks so people can safely get around our city. This is an important public safety concern. Those who still have not cleared snow from the sidewalk in front of their home or business may be subject to a fine.
Property owners are urged to clear snow blocking vents to prevent a potentially fatal buildup of carbon monoxide.
Temperatures are expected to be in the single digits overnight, with windchill as low as -20 degrees. Exposure to extreme cold can cause serious and life-threatening injuries such as frostbite and hypothermia within minutes.
Symptoms of hypothermia include slurred speech, sluggishness, confusion, dizziness, shallow breathing, unusual behavior, and slow, irregular heartbeat.
Symptoms of frostbite include gray, white or yellow skin discoloration, numbness, and waxy-feeling skin.
If you believe someone is suffering from these conditions, bring them to a warm environment and seek medical attention immediately. In the event of an emergency, dial 911.
