Santow and Ibiyemi Join School Board, Oliveira Reappointed

PROVIDENCE, RI
– Mayor Jorge O. Elorza Wednesday welcomed two new members to the Providence School Board, Muyideen Ibiyemi and Dr. Mark Santow, and welcomed back current member Keith Oliveira who has been reappointed to the Board.

“I am pleased to welcome Muyideen, Keith and Mark to the Providence School Board,” said Mayor Elorza. “Improving our public school system is a top priority for my administration and I look forward to working with the School Board to ensure that all students have access to excellent public schools.”

Dr. Mark Santow is an Associate Professor and Chair of the History Department at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. A Providence resident, Santow has studied and written about social policy in American cities. A graduate of Vanderbilt University, Dr. Santow holds a M.A. in American History from UMASS Amherst and a Ph.D. in American History from the University of Pennsylvania.

Muyideen Ibiyemi is a parent of Providence Public School students and President of the Nigerian Community of Rhode Island. A financial professional, Ibiyemi taught Government and Budgeting in Ogun State in Nigeria and has been a member of the Highlander Charter School Parent Teacher Organization for four years. Ibiyemi has a MBA in finance and International Relations.

Keith A. Oliveira is the Director of Admissions and Student Support at the RI Nurses Institute Middle College Charter School and has served on the Providence School Board since 2011. His previous experience includes stints with the Office of Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts and the Rhode Island Department of Education. A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Oliveira also serves on the Executive Committee of the Council for Great City Schools.

The Providence School Board consists of nine members, each appointed to three year terms.
