City of Providence Celebrates St. Joseph's Day
Mayor Elorza Leads Celebration of Italian-American Heritage, Culture
PROVIDENCE, RI – Music and celebration filled City Hall Thursday as Mayor Jorge O. Elorza hosted the City's annual St. Joseph's Day celebration in Providence.
“Italian-American tradition is a cornerstone of Providence's rich and diverse culture,” said Mayor Elorza. “Today we recognize and celebrate the countless ways in which the Italian-American community has helped make Providence great.”
Mayor Elorza hosted the celebration, which included a musical performance by Dominic De Pasquale. Father Vincent Lonardo delivered the invocation and Honorary Vice Consul Deborah Del Sesto delivered the keynote address.
Members of the Providence state delegation and City Council served as honorary co-chairs for the celebration. Senators Ciccone and Ruggerio joined Representatives Carnevale, DeSimone, Lima, Lombardi and Palangio as well as City Councillors Correia, Igliozzi, Narducci, Principe and Salvatore as honorary co-chairs.
The celebration concluded with zeppole and refreshments for those in attendance.
