Cranston Public Library Hosts HERCRI Lecture

On Sunday, March 29, the Cranston Public Library welcomes the Holocaust Education and Resource Center of Rhode Island (HERCRI) as they hold an installment of the Victor Baxt Lecture Series entitled "The Providence Jewish Community and the Rise of Hitler; 1933-1939." The event will begin at 2:00 pm.

Geraldine Foster will lead the free lecture, exploring the Providence Jewish community during the time period, as well as what community members knew about the changes in Europe, how they came to learn of new developments, and how they reacted to global events.

Foster, an English teacher with degrees from Pembroke and Brown University, is an active member of the Jewish community who works closely with the Jewish Historical Society, Miriam Hospital and the Alperin Schechter Day School. She is the editor of The History of the Jews in Rhode Island; Congregation Sons of Israel and David: a Pictorial Memoir; and Moments and Memories, as well as the co-author of the book Jews of Rhode Island 1658-1958. Foster writes a monthly column for the Jewish Voice called Remember the Past.
