Leah Bamberger will serve as the next Director of Sustainability for the City of Providence

PROVIDENCE, RI – Mayor Jorge O. Elorza Thursday announced that Leah Bamberger is joining his administration as Director of Sustainability.

“Ensuring that the City is a leader in sustainability efforts is good for every stakeholder in Providence,” said Mayor Elorza. “Leah has the experience and passion we need to ensure our sustainability efforts provide the best possible quality of life in Providence. I welcome her to the team.”

Bamberger's previous experience includes running the ‘Greenovate Boston' sustainability initiative and developing a Climate Action Plan during her time working for the Mayor of Boston. Other experience includes work with the engineering and planning firm, Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc., as well as work for The Nature Conservancy and Clean Air – Cool Planet. Bamberger is a graduate of the College of Charleston and holds a Master of Regional Planning from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

The Office of Sustainability is tasked with providing a better quality of life for all residents while maintaining nature's ability to function over time by minimizing waste, preventing pollution, promoting efficiency and developing local resources to revitalize the local economy.

As Director of Sustainability, Bamberger will help build a resilient and sustainable future for Providence. She replaces Shelia Dormody, who serves as Mayor Elorza's Director of Policy.
