StyleWeek hosts fundraiser to benefit student designers

STYLEWEEK HOSTS FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT MENTORSHIP PROGRAM FOR STUDENT DESIGNERS IN RHODE ISLAND

PROVIDENCE, RI - (April 20, 2015)
StyleWeek's student design competition Seed began in 2011 as an extension of StyleWeek.  After five successful student competitions, Seed announced that it was expanding to become its' own entity as a non-profit organization to provide mentorship programs for student designers in Rhode Island as of February 2014.  In honor of the launch, StyleWeek is hosting a circus themed fundraiser to benefit the student mentorship program at The Arcade Providence on May 29, 2015 from 6:30pm-10:00pm.

An incubator program for young designers, the mentorship will be offered by a selected group of designers, buyers, stylists, and other fashion professionals that are a part of the network that StyleWeek has created over the past ten seasons.  Third year students will be nominated by the directors of their university fashion program to partake in this supplemental secondary education program.  Students will receive six months of mentoring and at the culmination of their mentorship; each student will design a three look capsule collection based on the knowledge that has been gained.  The capsule collection will serve as their entry into StyleWeek's Seed student design competition where a panel of fashion industry notables, media and members of the StyleWeek community will judge the collections.  Not only will the winner receive a monetary prize along with promotional support from the regional fashion community and StyleWeek from the mentorship program, but they will also be provided with their first experience of a professional trade runway show and the future to come.

The Arcade Providence will be completely transformed into a circus venue on the night of the event and student designs from the previous Seed student design competitions will be showcased.  Guests will be entertained with circus games, music and entertainment.  New Harvest Coffee and Spirits will be partnering with Seed for this event to host an open bar for 90 minutes.  All guests who purchase a $100 raffle ticket will automatically be entered into a raffle to win $10,000 cash.  The raffle drawing will take place at 9:30pm that evening and the winner does not have to be present to claim their prize.  All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards launching the student design mentorship program.
