Raimondo Nominates Six to the Library Board of Rhode Island
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Governor Gina M. Raimondo Thursday announced her intent to nominate John Bucci, Melody Drnach, Annette Feldman, Sr. Joyce Flowers, Mary Moen and Doug Norris to the Library Board of Rhode Island. Raimondo will submit their names to the Rhode Island State Senate for confirmation.
"Libraries have played a pivotal role in my life, from helping my grandfather learn English, to helping me be a better student," said Raimondo. "This diverse group of individuals represents our libraries' various stakeholders and will work to ensure that everyone's voice is heard. I am grateful for their service."
These nominations will replace Kristen Chin, Edward Garcia, Jr., Phyllis Humphrey, Shirley Long, Joan Ress Reeves and Joan Retsinas whose board terms have expired.
"I also want to thank Kristen, Edward, Phyllis, Shirley, Joan and Joan for their valuable work while they served on this board. I wish them the very best with their future endeavors," added Raimondo.
The Library Board of Rhode Island is composed of citizens and representatives, appointed by the Governor from libraries of all types. The Board advises the Office of Library and Information Services on policy issues, supports legislative initiatives, and acts as an advocacy group on behalf of libraries.
