Celebrate Hispanic Heritage at Providence Children’s Museum

TIME:    6:00 - 7:00 PM

WHAT:    Join a hands-on workshop exploring Latin music with Lorena Garay as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.  Participants will discover the musical styles and traditions of the Andes, the Spanish Caribbean, South America, Spain and Mexico as they experiment with an extensive collection of hand percussion instruments.

The event is the family kick-off celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month 2015, a statewide celebration of Latino art and culture in Rhode Island, and is presented in partnership with RI Latino Arts.  The Children’s Museum is open from 5:00 - 8:00 PM and admission is free for “MetLife Family Friday – Free at Five!,” sponsored by MetLife Foundation.

Lorena Garay is an award-winning graduate of The Hartt School of the University of Hartford and the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico and plays a wide range of Latin styles.  She performs regularly as a soloist and bandleader of her Latin American ensemble, Surcari, and has received numerous awards and grants, including the Latino de Oro Music Award.
