Mayor Elorza Announces Winter Swim Program

PROVIDENCE, RI – Mayor Jorge Elorza Tuesday announced a Winter Swim program which includes free swim lessons and activities at Pleasant View Elementary School on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. this winter.

"I'm excited to announce the Winter Swim Program and I hope families throughout the city will participate,” said Mayor Elorza. "This program gives our kids an opportunity to learn to swim and helps them remain active during chilly winter months."

Winter Swim will be held on Saturdays with swim lessons held at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., followed by open swim and activities including basketball and volleyball in the pool at 10 a.m. and 12-1 p.m.

Residents can register for the Winter Swim program at their local recreation center. Transportation will be provided from the recreation centers to the school and back.

This first round of Winter Swim will run every Saturday until December 19, 2015. A second session is scheduled to begin on January 2, 2016. Details on the second session will be finalized at a later date.
