Red Sox David Ortiz to retire after 2016 season

Red Sox designated hitter announced Wednesday that he will retire at the end of the season.  Ortiz made the announcement on his Twitter account. 

Ortiz, who turns 40 on Wednesday, is entering his 14th season in Boston.  He's hit 503 HR's, driven in 1,641 runs while hitting .284.   The nine-time All-Star will make $16 million in 2016.  The team has an option for the 2017 season.
