Mayor Elorza Appoints Stephanie Fortunato as Director of Art, Culture + Tourism
Acting Director Stephanie Fortunato to serve as Director of Art, Culture + Tourism, Emily Crowell as Press Secretary.
PROVIDENCE, RI- Mayor Jorge Elorza Tuesday announced that Stephanie Fortunato will serve as Director of Art, Culture + Tourism for the City of Providence.
"I look forward to continuing to work with Stephanie in her new role as Director of Art, Culture + Tourism," said Mayor Elorza. "Her experience both in her work here in the City and throughout her career will benefit the Creative Capital as she works to create sustainable cultural diversity here in Providence.”
Fortunato, a graduate of Providence College and Brown University, has worked for the City of Providence since 2008. She has worked as Special Projects Manager and Deputy Director of Art, Culture +Tourism beginning in 2011. She has also served as Acting Director to the department since October of last year.
In her work with the department, Stephanie has managed strategic partnerships and creative place making to advance Providence’s cultural plan. As Director, she will oversee and direct all departmental programs, budget and staff as well as develop cross-sector arts collaborations to serve the Department’s mission.
Mayor Elorza also announced that Deputy Communications Director Emily Crowell will serve as Press Secretary. Crowell will oversee the Administration's media strategy and serve as the Mayor's primary spokesperson and media contact. Emily previously worked for U.S. Senator Jack Reed before serving as Deputy Director of Communications for the current administration.
