Gloria Gemma Expands Annual Breast Cancer Walk
Gloria Gemma Expands Annual Breast Cancer Walk, GloriDays Introduces a Saturday and Sunday two-day, 24-mile walk option
Pawtucket, RI (April 8, 2016): Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation based in Pawtucket, RI, has announced a new registration option for its annual GloriDays breast cancer walk taking place the weekend of June 3rd at Colt State Park in Bristol, RI. Participants can now register for the new Walk-24 option, which covers 24 miles over two days – 15 miles on Saturday and 9 miles on Sunday. Alternatively, participants can still register for the traditional 44 miles over 3 days – 20 miles on Friday, 15 miles on Saturday and 9 miles on Sunday.
Bryan Sawyer, COO of Gloria Gemma stated: “We are delighted to give our community this two-day walk option. It answers requests from many people interested in experiencing the beauty that is GloriDays, but unable to commit to the full three-day experience due to work or personal obligations.”
All registered walkers commit to raising $1500 for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation prior to the walk, either individually or as part of a team. Funds raised will go towards free education, resources, and programming for those touched by breast cancer in the greater Rhode Island area as well as towards Gloria Gemma’s future Survivorship & Wellness center.
GloriDays expects over 150 participants and volunteers this year to raise $150,000 to support the mission of Gloria Gemma.
“GloriDays is much more than a breast cancer walk. It represents all that we do at Gloria Gemma to support our community. We walk for those who we have lost and for those who are thriving,” said Gloria Gemma’s Director of Fundraising, Lynn Simon. “With every step, we celebrate life. We are dedicated to helping as many people as we can by doing what we do best, being there for those touched by breast cancer.”
Registration costs are $50 for the 24-mile option and $65 for the 44-mile option. Registration includes a GloriDays 2016 shirt, a shared two-person pink tent to sleep in, daily meals and snacks, access to mobile showers and free entertainment throughout the weekend. Walkers should be 15 years of age or older.
There are many ways to volunteer over the weekend for those not interested in walking. The GG Crew involves a three-day commitment fully supporting the walkers throughout the weekend. The Gidget’s Gang Youth Crew is a supervised group of young volunteers ages 10-15 providing help during the event. Volunteers are also needed at cheering stations, rest areas and other specialized spots along the journey.
