Launch Party & Artist Book Release for Spectacles & Spectators by Keri King at Providence Public Library, October 23
PROVIDENCE, RI -- Providence Public Library will welcomes Providence artist and author Keri King for a launch of her artist book Spectacles & Spectators on Sunday, October 23 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in the Library’s Meeting Room, 3rd Floor (150 Empire Street, Providence). The event, marking the artist’s debut release, will feature a multi-media reading and light refreshments.
Slip into an ambiguously Victorian fantasy world and follow a cast of fashionably dressed animals through a madcap tale of art and crime in high society. Spectacles & Spectators, a visual storybook for grownups with pictures and words by Keri King, has been produced in limited edition at DWRI Letterpress in Providence; each artist book will be printed on an offset press and feature a letterpress cover.
Keri King is a cross-disciplinary Providence artist. Upon graduating from Rhode Island School of Design in 2005, Keri founded an experimental theater arts project -- a joyfully irreverent feathers and sequins donning dance troop. Danger! Danger! Birds performed musical vignettes and comedic skits that harkened back to turn of the century traditions of vaudeville and burlesque. Today, Keri's creative practice incorporates illustration, public art, storytelling and the occasional foray into tap shoes. She recently created a multi-site installation for PVDfest 2016 and PPL is thrilled to say she is our 2017 Creative Fellow.
