The Calming Benefits of Coloring Now Available at Cranston Public Library’s Auburn Branch
Cranston Public Library’s Auburn Branch is kicking off the new year with a new program: an adult coloring drop-in. Titled “Color and Calm,” this event will begin on Friday, January 27 and continue to take place on alternating Fridays from 4:30-5:45 PM.
“In the last few years, many libraries around the country have begun adult coloring programs, which have proven to be very popular,” says Auburn Branch Librarian Karen McGrath. “Auburn is starting this program now in response to patron requests for a way to decompress and ease into the weekend.”
In recent years, adult coloring books have taken the country by storm, and studies have pointed to the many benefits of coloring as an activity, including stress and anxiety reduction, stronger focus, and increased mindfulness.
The Auburn Branch will supply visitors with free coloring pages and mandalas, colored pencils and markers, as well as herbal teas and soothing music—everything a person might need to wind down at the end of the work week!
The Auburn Branch is located at 396 Pontiac Ave, Cranston RI 02910
