NOW OPEN! Coming to Rhode Island: an exhibit exploring history and culture through stories

Embark on a time-traveling adventure through a “time tunnel” to learn about Rhode Island’s immigration history.  Explore an imaginative interactive environment that highlights the story of an Irish immigrant who worked on the construction of Fort Adams.  And discover an array of intriguing hands-on activities that explore culture and diversity and encourage empathy.

Heart Smart

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with heart healthy activities.  Kids test their heart rates, learn about the anatomy of a heart, and more.  Recommended for ages 5 and up.

Play and Learn: Bugs in Boxes
Tuesday, February 14 •  10:00 AM - Noon 

Play and Learn is the Museum’s open-ended story-based program for 2- to 4-year-olds and their parents, designed to help preschoolers build their skills in a variety of areas and to help parents continue the learning at home.  This week, preschoolers practice sorting and develop spatial awareness as they find just the right size boxes to fit various bugs.

Shape Play
Wednesday, February 15 & Thursday, February 16 •  10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

It's all about shapes and geometry in Discovery Studio, the Museum’s open-ended art and science exploration space!  Toss, sort, stack and match an array of shapes to create designs and patterns and explore symmetry.

Toddler Try-It: Shape Sort
Friday, February 17  •  10:00 AM - Noon

Young children, ages 18 months to 3 years, use real tools and explore the creative process as they delve into different hands-on art and science activities each Friday morning.  This week, toddlers sort and arrange shapes by size and color.

MetLife Family Friday – Free at Five!

The Museum is open free from 5:00 - 8:00 PM for “MetLife Family Friday – Free at Five!,” sponsored by MetLife Foundation.  Stay out late and splash, play, explore and discover!  From 6:00 - 7:30 PM, try hands-on activities exploring engineering and pulleys.

In celebration of National Engineers Week, kids investigate the world of engineering at fun-filled activity stations with members of the Society of Women Engineers.  Experiment with electrical conductivity, investigate the power of pulley systems, and more!  Recommended for ages 5 and up.

Engineer It! Pulleys
Sunday, February 19  •  11:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Explore and experiment during a monthly series of engineering challenges.  Discover the power of simple machines – construct pulley systems using broomsticks, yarn, rolling pins and other household items and experiment by lifting heavy objects.  Recommended for ages 5 and up.
