PROVIDENCE, RI -- Providence Public Library will welcome David Stone and Christopher Scott Martin, authors of Rhode Island Clam Shacks, for a book launch and talk on Monday, May 15 from 6:30 – 8 pm in the Library’s Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, 150 Empire Street, Providence.  With more than 200 images mined from historical archives, the authors will give a look at the traditions and recipes honoring Rhode Island’s favorite seafood, the quahog.  Books for sale and signing following program.
Steamships once plied the waters of Narragansett Bay, carrying thousands of guests to feasts of clams prepared in every way imaginable at scenic spots like Rocky Point and Crescent Park. In the '40s and '50s, Rhode Islanders took to their automobiles to drive to the beach for clamcakes and chowder at the shacks and chowder houses that carried on the old traditions.

The program is open and free as part of the Library's ongoing On the Table program series.
