Governor Raimondo releases video "Making Things in Rhode Island Again"

Raimondo Makes Push for Rhode Island Manufacturing Initiative Governor Releases Web Video Titled "Making Things in Rhode Island Again"

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -  Governor Gina M. Raimondo released a web video and posted a commentary on Medium Tuesday afternoon highlighting the urgent work required to "rebuild and reinvent manufacturing here in Rhode Island." The video provides details about the Rhode Island Manufacturing Initiative Raimondo first announced in her State of the State address earlier this year.

"Working class Americans and Rhode Islanders are anxious. They've seen the economy change, and many feel like they've been left behind. Traditional manufacturing jobs may be gone, but Rhode Islanders still have the same grit and determination. So let's tap into that to rebuild and reinvent manufacturing for the 21st century here in Rhode Island," Raimondo wrote in the Medium post. "That's exactly what I'm trying to do in partnership with leaders from our business, labor and education communities. The budget I submitted to the General Assembly includes support for the Rhode Island Manufacturing Initiative."

The Rhode Island Manufacturing Initiative invests in manufacturing training for Rhode Island high school students, helps smaller manufacturers invest in new equipment and makes it easier for manufacturers to train and hire Rhode Island workers. Last week, The Boyd Company--a leading site-selection firm--released a study that shows Rhode Island ranks as the most cost-effective state for manufacturing in the Northeast.

Governor Raimondo released the video and commentary the day before she is scheduled to address the Rhode Island Manufacturing Association and present the Business Partner of the Year award at the William M. Davies, Jr. Career & Technical High School Partners in Education Appreciation Breakfast.
