August 23, 2017 Providence, RI - Providence Children’s Museum will host the Imperial Lion Dance Team from Worcester, MA on Friday, August 25, 2017, during our MetLife Family Friday- Free at Five! in celebration of the closing of our traveling exhibit, Voyage to Vietnam: Celebrating the Tet Festival. The last day to experience this exhibit is Monday, September 4, 2017.

Voyage to Vietnam: Celebrating the Tet Festival showcases traditions, customs and values exemplified by the annual celebration of Tet.  Through interactive exhibits, families will immerse themselves in Vietnamese culture, gain appreciation for traditions, values and daily experiences of people who live in Vietnam, and discover similarities and differences between their lives in the U.S. and the lives of families in Vietnam.  Visitors are welcomed into the exhibit through the New Year gateway, and are transported to the Tet Festival in modern day Vietnam. The immersive Marketplace invites families to select traditional flowers and faux food items to prepare for the celebration. Families can pose for interactive family photos, dress up in customary Ao Dai, try on a giant Lion Dance Mask, and create a fireworks display to signal the coming of the New Year.

The Imperial Lion Dance Team performance in celebration of the exhibit will be on Friday, August 22, 2017, from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM, during PCM’s MetLife Family Friday, when admission is free for all visitors. Explore the exhibit and celebrate the Vietnamese traditional Tet Festival with hands-on activities and a dynamic presentation that features loud drums and friendly, but fierce-looking costumed lions. The Team aims to preserve and revolutionize the arts and culture of lion dance while introducing the art form to new audiences.

In celebration of Voyage to Vietnam, special programming (Five Fruits and Tet Celebration) will be held in Discovery Studio from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM through next week.
